Job description
PAWV is the statewide, grassroots, nonprofit organization dedicated to historic preservation. In 2021, PAWV launched a preservation trades initiative to respond to the shortage of training opportunities in the traditional trades that are available to West Virginia youth and new professionals. AHI and PAWV have agreed to work together to develop training opportunities with the goal of preserving the 12 historic structures AHI owns. In 2022, the partners successfully leveraged an Appalachian Regional Commission POWER grant to hire a consultant to help plan a historic preservation training center based at Arthurdale. Part of this service project will be to help with that project doing research, planning and communications. Additionally, the member will be required to work with PAWV staff to plan at least 1 educational youth program to be held at AHI. A secondary part of this service commitment is the Arthurdale Heritage survey. This project involves completing a total resurvey of the Arthurdale Historic District that was started by a previous AmeriCorps member earlier this year. The last survey filed for the district was completed in 1989, the goal of this project is to understand how many of the original historic houses are extant and the conditions of each dwelling.
