Overview: Job Summary:
  • The Billing Assistant is responsible for the first steps in the billing process. Weekly assignments are provided by the supervisor and the billing assistant must develop a plan to complete work lists by end of week. Billing assistants must comply with applicable laws regarding billing standards, and be able to operate in a team-oriented environment that strives to provide superior service to anesthesia providers throughout the country.
Responsibilities: Essential Functions and Tasks:
Batch Preparation
  • Sort documentation from client by date of service
  • Reconcile daily cases to surgical schedule
  • Flags codes needing hard copy reports or documentation
  • Request and log missing information from clients
  • Review outstanding issues daily
  • Weekly confirmation that all dates of service have a charge batch
  • Close batches timely according to team goals
  • Scanning
Charge Entry
  • Routinely conducts OCR verification of demographic data
  • Routinely runs insurance plan selection program
  • Identifies need to add plans to master table and reruns selection to program
  • Runs upload program to upload demographic data into Client Master
  • Enters charge batches as coded by client and Coding Specialist as applicable
  • Refers coding and fee questions to Client Account Manager
  • Prints concurrency report and resolves all possible overlaps
  • Prints proofing report and checks for accuracy
Correspondence
  • Retrieve correspondence and sort by client
  • Corrects address on return mail
  • Sorts claims and secondary’s
  • Notates patient accounts properly
Telephone Management/Miscellaneous
  • Answers telephone according to company requirements
  • Routes client calls to appropriate manager
  • Responds to patient/insurance company claim inquiries
  • Notes patient accounts properly
  • Update patient address from statement carrier
Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • One year in data entry field
  • One year in medical billing preferred
  • Basic written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to make decisions in a timely fashion that are sound, accurate and supported by the reasoning and inclusion of appropriate people
  • Must be able to interact well with all kinds of people
  • Must be able to prioritize and accomplish objectives in a timely fashion
