Goodwill NYNJ is looking for a new Director, Grants and Contracts, who is driven by their ability to cultivate an environment which encourages maximum productivity, professional development, open communication, and cross functional team work.

Under the direction of the SVP Finance, the Director, Grants and Contract has direct responsibility for the management of Grants/Contract financial reporting and oversight of the Grants/Contracts team. This is a leadership role, focused on strengthened business partnerships and improving the efficiencies and quality of financial data.

What You’ll Do:

  • Process Improvement - Lead key transformation initiatives focused on strengthening business partnerships with internal management and external funders, improving support for operational decision-making and building capability within the team. Specifically:
    • Learn the needs of the organization and identify opportunities to leverage systems to develop streamlined, informative, reporting.
    • Strengthen team capabilities, including government contract billing, receivables management and reporting processes.
  • Operational - Leadership of Goodwill NYNJ’s Government Grants/Contracts function, including the following:
    • Serve as key partner to Mission Services and Finance senior leadership by effectively preparing/directing and communicating financial reporting/analysis, budgeting, dashboard and forecasts, which provide leading indicators of operational and financial performance.
    • Partnering with Mission Services senior management on state/city contract spend down management and other business opportunities/implications.
    • Leading annual budgeting and reforecasting efforts for Grants/Contracts.
    • Oversee the management of government contract receivables
    • Conduct routine oversight and QA which positively determines proper preparation/submission of all revenue claims and accruals, budget submissions, funder audits and other required reporting.
    • In conjunction with Senior Fiscal Officers, establish/build strong relationships with fiscal counterparts at Provider Companies and funders.
    • Participate in funder and association meetings to stay informed and advocate for sensible policies.
  • Leadership
    • Lead, motivate, and mentor the Grant/Contract team while building culture of planning & analysis.
    • Cultivate an environment that encourages maximum productivity, professional development, open communication, and team work.
  • Other
    • Collaborates and assists SVP, Finance with; Strategic Planning and Department goal setting
    • Remains abreast of accounting & finance regulations and market trends to ensure organizational compliance
    • Oversee and participate with special projects and work assignments, as needed.


  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or Finance with 8+ years’ accounting experience, including at least 5 in a leadership position within a $50M+ organization.
  • Experience with government and state grant reporting; Medicaid, federal, state, and local laws, codes required.
  • Strong communicator, able to effectively partner with others to ensure the Grants/Contracts team is meeting the needs of the organization.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and streamlining financial reporting, which has resulted in increased efficiency and availability of useful financial information for organizational decision-making.
  • Strong acumen in maintaining accurate financial records and preparing clear and accurate reports for operational use.
