Manages the daily operations of the Materials Operations group, which include the Oceanside warehouse as well as the MRO Storeroom operation. Responsibilities include supervision of all staff, contractors and other resources. Specifically responsible for all materials handling, storage, warehousing, receiving, sampling, shipping and general administrative service activities. This job involves a strong emphasis on customer service, both internal and external.

Job Responsibilities


  • Manage the delivery of materials, handling, logistics and administrative services which includes GMP and non-GMP materials receiving, handling, shipping, and storage; on-site and off-site warehousing; shipping of finished goods.

  • Responsible for identifying and implementing improvements in staff development in areas such as cGMP training, core competencies, technical skills, safety, and performance management.

  • Drive continuous improvement into the Manage inventory business process to ensure efficient and effective operations.

  • Understand key touch points and their contribution to the Manage inventory business process, as well as the contribution of the Manage Inventory business processes to other global/site processes.

  • Work effectively with Corporate and Global support functions associated with the Manage Inventory and Distribute Goods business processes, Transportation and Logistics, and Compliance.

  • Serve as a liaison for CMO partners to address Manage Inventory related issues as necessary.

  • Ensure that accurate materials inventory systems; control procedures and documentation are maintained.

  • Ensure a compliant WH operation meets all standards by DOT, TSA, EPA, OSHA, and cGMP.

  • Responsible for all general receiving and delivery to the facility.

  • Manage and execute the logistics of production materials management receipt through distribution.

  • Assist with department budgets and strategic staffing plans.

  • Assist with defining business objectives and timelines.

  • All employees with jobs that require access to the Warehouse must be able to pass the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) Security Threat Assessment (STA).

  • Promotes a safety culture that support continuous improvement in the EHS management system through active communication and functional area participation in site safety teams ensuring the safe and efficient operation of assigned functional areas and activities. Fosters a positive safety culture in which no one gets hurt.

Job Requirements

Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree (materials management is preferred) plus 15 years experience including 5 years experience in supervisory role.

  • 9-12 years experience in materials handling/management, warehousing, receiving, distribution, traffic, transportation, logistics, operations, and/or supply chain.

  • ASCM (APICS) certification preferred or willing to work toward certification.

  • Professional certifications in Materials Management/Materials Handling desired.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of and proficiency in the general industry standards and practices for materials handling/control, receiving, shipping and storage.

  • Good collaboration, communication, and team work skills are essential.

  • Ability to lead, develop, and inspire a group is required.

  • Knowledge and training in chemicals handling/dispensing, good lab methods/practices, Hazmat and Right-to-Know.

  • Experience in Department of Transportation (DOT) hazardous material handling, DOT Shipping names, manifesting, and truck placarding required.

  • Must have working knowledge of cGMP concepts and guidelines..

  • Prior experience in a biotech, pharmaceutical, or chemical-manufacturing environment required.

  • Experience in computer systems applications (MRP) and use in a validated environment including SAP.

  • Knowledge of safe chemical handling is required.

  • Proficiency with the following software: Microsoft Word, Excel, VISO and Project.

Work Environment/Physical Demands/Safety Considerations

  • Schedule may include some non-routine (outside of M-F 8-5 work hours) to support manufacturing schedules, audits, and other non-routine work.

  • Maybe on feet for 2 to 3 hours a day.

  • Climb upwards of 6 flights of stairs a day to maneuver within the manufacturing facility.

  • Lift up to 25lbs may be required.

  • Environment requires that gowning in the form of hospital scrubs, bunny suits, gloves and steel toe boots be worn.

  • Work in clean room environment with large mechanical equipment, piping, and pumps connecting to tanks serviced by high-pressure steam, water and air.

  • May work with hazardous materials.
