Overview: Job Summary:
  • The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will report to the Director, Payroll and Benefits Administration and will perform payroll activities. The Payroll and Benefits Specialist will support the preparation, maintenance, processing, and auditing of manual and automated payroll data, information, reports, and records to ensure accuracy and completeness of payroll transactions. The Payroll and Benefits Specialist is responsible for assisting with the administration of all benefits and retirement programs, including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-and long-term disability and 401(k). The Payroll and Benefits Specialist provides frontline customer services to serve and support Ventra employees.
Responsibilities: Essential Functions and Tasks:
  • Assists in ensuring accurate and timely production of the payroll functions
  • Assists in timely completion of bi-weekly payroll processing
  • Evaluates and ensures that payroll issues and discrepancies are resolved in a timely manner
  • Researches, analyzes, and resolves payroll related problems or questions by collecting and analyzing information
  • Verifies time clock records have been captured correctly and completely
  • Assists in payroll information updates
  • Processes wage garnishments, liens, in accordance with federal and state laws
  • Maintains confidentiality related to employee’s payroll information
  • Completes employment verifications by phone and in writing timely
  • Ensures the accuracy of all benefits enrollments in the HRIS to provide vendors with accurate eligibility information
  • Performs quality checks of benefits-related data
  • Assists employees regarding benefits claim issues and plan changes
  • Responds to benefits inquiries from managers and employees on plan provisions, benefits enrollments, status changes and other general inquiries
  • Processes and administers all leave-of-absence requests and disability paperwork: medical, personal, disability and FMLA
  • Effectively interprets FMLA and ADA implications as they relate to leaves of absences/disabilities
  • Responds to 401(k) inquiries from managers and employees relating to enrollments, plan changes and contribution amounts. Manages the annual catch-up contribution enrollment
  • Assists with the open enrollment process
  • Manages processing of life events
  • Administration of COBRA
Qualifications: Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Associates degree in Accounting, Finance or Business or related experience
  • At least two (2) years of payroll processing and benefit support experience
  • Hands on experience with payroll/HRIS software, ExponentHR highly desired
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to make decisions in a timely fashion that are sound, accurate and supported by the reasoning and inclusion of appropriate members of Ventra Health
  • Must be able to prioritize and adhere to strict deadlines to ensure timely payroll
  • Excellent time management skills
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Benefits administration experience (open enrollment, life events and COBRA) preferred
  • Multi-state payroll experience (including final pay laws) preferred
  • Deep knowledge of state and federal payroll and tax regulations
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs):
  • Basic use of computer, telephone, internet, copier, fax, and scanner
  • Touch-typing skills, 40 wpm required, 50 wpm preferred
  • Basic touch 10 key skills
  • Understand and comply with company policies and procedures
  • Basic knowledge of Outlook, Word and Excel
