Job description
The members that serve in the Education Program will provide tutoring and training to students residing in the community, to promote academic development. Activities and initiatives will be designed and developed to promote involvement of the program participants and their families in community service and service-learning activities. The members that will serve in the Healthy Futures component will develop workshops and physical activities for children and youth with the principal objective to reducing childhood obesity. The Program will also work with the community in the identification of recreational leaders to support the educational and physical initiatives, mainly activities to be carried out in the panorama of social distancing due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Finally, the Environmental Stewardship Program will support responsible stewardship of the environment, while preparing communities for challenging circumstances and helping the community respond to and recover from disruptive life events. The Environmental Stewardship component will be doing a recovery of community barren spaces and the Martin Peña Canal for community safety, improve the ecosystem at risk and strengthen citizen behavior regarding change.Member Duties : The AmeriCorps members will be responsible for a 75% increase in metrics pertaining to the academic and social development of the student (improving engagement with homework and participation inside the classroom, grade achievements, and general academic improvement). On the other hand, in the Nutrition and Fitness Program, the members will impact 60 children and youth in the community, 75% of which will take on a healthy lifestyle and achieve a healthy weight. The Environmental Stewardship at first year will be transforming 5 of the Cantera's vacant spaces previously identify, occupying these spaces and turn them into community gardens, recycling disposal centers, passive parks, and others, giving way to effective socio-territorial integration to the rest of the urban space in which it is immersed, and a management that favors the implementation of this idea.
